San Joaquin Valley Quilt Guild

3D Applique: Geraniums

This is one of the most fun quilt patterns to teach. We cover a variety of techniques in a stunning quilt presentation. It looks challenging but each step is simplified. The lace and flowers are cut in class by an electronic cutter.

Asilomar: Machine Appliqué Adventures

I have taught at Quilt Festival in Houston and for AQS in Lancaster but the Empty Spools experience beats them all. You stay in the historic women’s college, built over 100 years ago by architect Julia Morgan. The setting is one of the most beautiful parts of the world on the beach at Monterey Bay. Pebble Beach golf and 17 Mile Drive are very close. My 5 day workshop explores the world of machine appliqué. We will play with tools and shortcuts, time savers and applique design options for mock hand applique (turned edge), raw edge applique and fusible web applique. The cafeteria provides food, the evenings include entertainment and the whole experience is worth the money.

Blackberries

This quilt design has many hidden opportunities to show off your skill. Simple machine applique makes a scalloped background. There are bias tape branches to stitch. The leaves and blossoms are cut in class with a Silhouette Cameo and ready to machine stitch. Optional: look at the sample quilts and decide if you will bead your berries or birds. You may wish to make cherries and blossoms instead of blackberries.
